This award recognises organisations in Ireland that have fundamentally transformed packaging systems, materials or processes to reduce environmental impact and support circular economy principles. Projects may include (but are not limited to): reusable packaging systems, packaging reduction, low-carbon packaging, circular packaging design, material innovation, supply chain transformation, waste elimination and consumer engagement initiatives. Entrants are expected to demonstrate measurable environmental improvements and show how their initiatives are transforming packaging practices beyond incremental change. Entry is by a 5-page A4 PDF submission; the judges will be looking for innovation, measurable outcomes and long-term sustainability impact, paying particular attention to the criteria listed below.

  • Strategy & Packaging Transformation Vision: Outline your organisation’s overall sustainable packaging strategy, including how it was developed, its key objectives, and the teams or individuals responsible for driving the transformation. Demonstrate how circular economy principles, environmental impact reduction, and long-term sustainability goals have been embedded into packaging decision-making.
  • Commitments & Packaging Improvement Initiatives: Describe the measures your organisation has implemented to improve the sustainability of packaging systems, materials, or processes, with particular emphasis on the past 12 months. This may include packaging reduction, reusable packaging systems, low-carbon materials, waste elimination initiatives, circular packaging design, or sustainable procurement practices.
  • Innovation & Material Transformation: Highlight any innovative packaging solutions, technologies, or approaches introduced by your organisation or in collaboration with suppliers and partners. Demonstrate how innovation has driven transformational change beyond incremental improvements, including examples of material innovation, redesign initiatives, supply chain transformation, or consumer-focused sustainability solutions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Explain how employees, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders have been engaged throughout the packaging transformation journey.
  • Outcomes & Measurable Environmental Impact: Summarise the measurable outcomes and environmental benefits achieved through your packaging transformation initiatives.
  • Future Goals & Continuous Innovation: Outline future plans for advancing your sustainable packaging strategy, including upcoming innovations, investment priorities, scaling opportunities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
